Admin Guide: DAM Backoffice Overview
This guide covers the main areas of the DAM management interface within the Umbraco backoffice, including section tabs, the content tree, and multi-client architecture.
1. Accessing the DAM Backoffice
Log in to Umbraco at your site's CMS URL.
The DAM section appears in the top navigation.
Click it to access the DAM management area.
2. DAM Section Tabs
The DAM backoffice has several tabs:
Clients -- Manage client/tenant organisations (create, edit, activate/deactivate).
Approvals -- Review and approve or reject assets submitted by portal users who require moderation.
Tags -- Manage the tag taxonomy: rename, merge, or delete tags.
Bulk Import -- Upload assets in bulk using CSV files with metadata mapping.
Asset Purge -- Permanently delete binned assets and clean up orphan storage files (super admin only).
Members -- Manage portal user permissions using permission presets.
Analytics -- Some basic stats regarding the users and assets.
3. Content Tree (Asset Configuration)
In the Umbraco Content section, find the Asset Configuration node.
This contains the Metadata Fields folder, where you define custom metadata fields and their options.
All metadata field definitions are managed directly in the Umbraco content tree.
Changes to field definitions take effect within 60 seconds (cached for performance).
4. Multi-Client Architecture
The DAM supports multiple clients/brands.
Each client has isolated data -- assets, metadata, members, and collections are scoped per client.
Backoffice users can be assigned to one or more clients.
A client dropdown allows switching between assigned clients where relevant.
Super admins can see all clients; other admins see only their assigned clients.
